Welcome to the Singing Alive Hawaii (SAHi), Gaian Folk Song Sharing Community

A Private Member Association for Singing Alive in the Hawaiian Isles.

What we are:

Singing Alive Hawaii (SAHi) is an intentional, all-ages community dedicated to nature immersion, acoustic song-sharing, and helping each other thrive in the Ways of ceremonial living.  We hold an annual winter gathering to explore common interests.  The next one, our 2nd, will take place February 5-8, 2027 on the Big Island of Hawaii.

To best support our evolving vision, we are moving it from a public event to a private gathering.  In short, SAHi is now a private membership expression of the larger and long running (since 2007) Singing Alive family of public events.

If you resonate with our mission of song-inspired earth-based spirituality, please review our membership requisites via the link below.   A year-long membership also includes ways to be part of the community in Hawaii, such as invitations (often donation-based) to song-leading workshops, song circle intensives, seasonal celebrations, land work parties, and things of this nature.

We align to the Gaian folk-song genre, and associated culture.  These songs explore the journey of the intuitive self-observations that lead to our ‘awakening' in this earthly dream.  They carry evolutionary teachings that help midwife us out of the ego-mind of history (separation), and into the heart-space of remembrance (connection).  Such songs are ‘designed’ to run new currents of creation now available in this dawning galactic cycle.   To sing them collectively strengthens their power to unify us as a human tribe, and helps manifest the world we long to live in . .

How we got here:

The Singing Alive family of events are early contributors to the current renaissance of nature-inspired community singing.  We have long existed as low to no commerce, non-performative, highly interactive containers for song-sharing.  Thru-out our history we have tended to minimize use of promotional medias, including email lists.   To spread the awareness that we exist, of what we do and are about, we have relied mostly on word of mouth, on our reputation and name recognition.

This is largely because of the intimate, familial, nature of the gatherings.  Singing Alive runs a sacred-space intention, and to best serve this purpose, does not hold to the usual festival paradigm.  Our attraction is the ‘container', not a ‘line-up’.  We do not use advertised big names (star power) to sell tickets, we offer a high Vibration (we do our best!) that attracts those in resonance.  We are a DIY adventure in participation, an edge, a mystery to explore, not a consumer experience with its various ‘knowns’.   We endeavor to sing with, not to sing at, to be whole, not hip, to be felt, not seen, and have almost no photos of the gathering on the website.

Playing by such different rules, many of them barely articulated, has had its challenges.   However, the fruit of this long evolution has resulted in a fairly unique community energetic.  To both protect and cultivate this result, we have moved the Hawaii event (SAHi) into a non-public format.  Specifically a PMA (private membership association). This ensures that everyone understands that they are a co-creator, and invites participants (now members) into a more clarified, more curated, village ecosystem.

Our Foundational Pillars

  • Voice as Medicine: Our primary instrument is the human voice.  As intention is paramount to anything that we do, to fuel it we need emotional agency, which the human voice is well designed to carry.   As in:  choose the frequency, and turn the (emotional) volume up.  We gather in circles (aka, multi-dimensional ’spheres’) to teach and share songs, many of which give expression to the heart’s intent, to the ‘flow’, more than the ’goal’.  Songs are learned thru listening, joining, and repetition.
  • Of Service to the Songs:  We regard songs as life forms, which are called, or ‘incarnated', into the human realms as they are felt and needed.  We aim to surface and attract songs of elevated frequency.  This thru doing the ‘work’ of consciousness evolution, i.e., the integration of the disparate parts of ourselves (healing).  We sing and carry such songs to ‘charge' them (and ourselves) and help this energetic ripple out into the world, to crystalize into form.
  • Non-Performative Space:  We access song as experience rather than performance.  We do not run an entertainer / audience dynamic.  There are no stages, amplification, paid musicians, nor hierarchy of talent @ our events. They are instead DIY-styled, highly interactive adventures in Gathering.  Acoustic instruments are welcomed, though only in direct support of the voice.
  • Appropriate Economics:  We operate, to the extent we are able, outside the commercial matrix.  The dues of one yearly membership, covers all of one’s expenses @ the annual gathering.  Food, tea, songs, and activities are shared freely amongst members. On the afternoon of the final day, there is an open market place in which everyone may exchange goods, services, or other currencies with the community.
  • Ceremonial Space:  We endeavor to create held environments (supportive space).  This to allow social armors to drop, to engage the inner worlds needed to develop focus, gratitude, and presence.  Our space is co-created in reverence of our Mother earth, Father sky, and the greater family of Creation.  We set a tone to encourage the practice of singing and songs as Holy Paths of Creation, to craft our lives in conscious, curious, and enjoyable (fun!) ways.

The Annual Gathering:

This gathering (SAHi) is DIY-styled, community-based, and devoted to the collective singing experience.  Attending members can sing as much or as little as they feel moved to do so.  No singing experience necessary. We share songs in ways that teach them to others, and encourages participation.

In this way we call in singers, song enthusiasts, that are exploring self-awareness, that claim self-responsibility. We call in songs that act as healers, as way-showers. Songs that help us clear out what that no longer serves, that help us set new harmonics of well-being. We sing to feel into and own our authenticity. We catch and carry songs to give as we have received, to honor the eternal spiral.

The intent of this gathering, is to provide a nature-based, restorative environment that acts as a retreat.  We wish to allow the natural altruism of our humanness to surface, to voice and embody the melodic magic of the songs, to weave community.

For those of you on island, this is a chance to dive deep into the community cohesion that comes of singing and Vibing together.  For those of you ‘off-island’, this may be the reason to go to Hawaii you have been waiting for!
